School Uniforms…Yes or No?

School uniforms are one of the most controversial topics, but if you really think about it, they could be helpful. Learn why.

School uniforms should be mandatory for all schools and school districts around the world. If every single school student were to wear the same thing, the whole bullying crisis would drastically decrease. Nord Anglia Education states, “When students all wear the same clothing every day at school, it levels out the playing field. Any expectations on what to wear are removed, and children develop a greater sense of equality.” (Article) I feel this is 100 percent a good enough reason for all schools to have school uniforms. If the students looked around and saw an even playing field, they would all realize that they all looked and had the same interests as one another. According to Cleveland Metro Schools, their website says, and I quote, “Many educators say that clothes can affect your grades and behavior in school.” I have reason to believe that this has not been proven. Where on their website does it say anything about tests done or even making their kids wear uniforms or clothes that affect learning? (Article).
I feel as if we were to ask some of the students who get bullied for the things they wear (maybe their clothes are ruined or maybe they have holes in their shoes). If the schools were to just give out their own uniforms and school shoes, then there would be no problems like that, and kids would be able to see eye to eye with them. Also, according to Nord Anglia Education, school uniforms help kids prepare for situations where formal attire is needed. As this quote states, “School uniforms prepare children for formal scenarios that we all encounter in our lives.” As you can see, I would like to believe that most of the world population has had a moment where they have had to wear nice attire, and being prepared for years throughout schooling is a very good way to become comfortable with how you look. Apparently, school uniforms are not needed. What about the kids who do not have money for clothes and can barely afford school in general? According to Cleveland Metro Schools (link above), “requiring dress codes forces families to waste money buying clothing that they do not need.” But what about all of the kids and the families that aren’t able to afford shoes? That is an evil thing to say. It’s people like us that can change all of the negative factors that kids today deal with. Help share their voice. Tell your family, loved ones, friends, or anyone spreading the word about what is wrong with schools and how they don’t support Americans and the world’s lower-class students. Help them.
