On November 18th CNN publicly announced that a mummified sabertooth cat was found preserved in ice with intact skin and fur.
Only the top half was there and it was deduced that the cat was only 3 weeks old when it died in modern day Siberia. 6th grade social studies classes have implemented this as they were recently in their unit of ancient hominids and civilizations and learning how our ancestors evolved, these sabertooth remains can help tell us how these cats evolved and their challenges. By examining the cat’s soft tissue scientists can learn how these creatures hunted, they also bear a similar look to modern day lion cubs.
These majestic creatures had tusks that grew up to 8 inches, and finding these mummified remains are extremely rare and extremely important to finding more about our world’s history and extinct creatures. For example this cub being found in Siberia tells us where it and other saber tooth cats lived and their lifestyles.
Scientists can check remains like this to find the cause of death, foods that were eaten and even their lifestyle. Scientists have found that these cats started their life with thicker bones and gradually became thinner and more slender.
